Experimenting with multiple exposures - 1

I've been shooting with my new D600 for a few months now and loving every second I get the opportunity to do so.  Last weekend I finally had the opportunity to experiment a little with multiple exposures; one of the perks to doing work for other artists is the opportunity to be a little more experimental than usual.  The following set is a combination of three exposures of one subject, shot with my Nikkor 50mm f/1.8, ISO 5000, and no flash.  The timing of the exposures was completely manual.  I'm very happy with the results so far.  I hope you enjoy!

Special thanks to The Redlines!  Please check them out at www.facebook.com/theredlines and try to catch a show; you won't be sorry.

Sometimes...

Sometimes, I don't know where to begin.  I'm a lot like a kid on a playground; I can't decide whether I want to ride the merry-go-round or the spring ride first.  Oh, but then there are the slides!  Oh, and the swings!  Oh boy!  The swings.  Not just one swing, but the regular swing and the one that's like a seesaw, but way cooler.

That, is a great analogy for my life.  I get so freaking excited about things and there are SO many things to be excited about!  For example, just about anything related to photography :)  Blogs, books, websites, you name it.  And the photos; millions of photos everywhere.  So many little treasures just waiting to be discovered.  Waiting to be created.

My current area of excitement is on the business end of things.  It started with developing fall promotional material and spiraled into a client FAQ, new letterhead, new booking packets, a new workflow, more defined responsibilities, a new website......   Tonight, after watching me work late nights for the better part of two weeks, my husband finally pointed out the fact that I tend to throw myself into things 150%, while most people might take one task at a time instead of five.  I wish he'd mentioned it a little sooner; maybe I'd be less tired :)  Ah, who am I kidding, 150% is nothing.  I'm way too excited about growing our business.

What is a good photograph?

A good photograph makes you smile, pulls you in and gives you a unique experience.

A great photograph stays with you for for weeks, months, years.

And some just simply say, "I love you."

Rain Chain

This post is totally not photography related, but what the heck, I'm in charge around here.  One of the things I enjoy about art is being able to share it, and besides doing that via the web (blogs, facebook, oolaadesigns.com), every year I make an effort to participate in Pittsburgh's Art All Night.  The second thing that I love about art is the ability to elicit an emotional response, and a response of appreciation, happiness, etc, is totally the best.  In other words, its nice when someone likes your stuff.

Well, a year later I happen into this blog post by someone who liked my stained glass rain chain that I entered in the 2012 Art All Night.  The proof is here: http://art-of-inclusion.blogspot.com/2012/05/art-all-night-2012-post-1-of-3.html.  Well that makes me happy :)

It's also a good reminder that I still have work to do on it.  What I entered was actually a rough prototype and I need to get moving on the next phase :)

Ready for the weekend!

For today's wedding I've chosen the ensemble that I now refer to as the "I've-already-fallen-into-a-swamp-nothing-worse-could-possibly-happen" outfit.  Ironically, it consists of the only silk shirt I've ever owned that I haven't managed to snag, even though I rolled around on a boardwalk in it during previously mentioned incident.  I hereby deem it my "lucky outfit."  I'm super excited for today's wedding, being part of it is awesome, but as an extra personal bonus it is actually in the church my grandparents were married in.

I promise more posts this weekend, with actual pictures in them :)  I have photos for my farm series to blog about, and have a veggie shoot planed for tomorrow.  Busy weekend!

Rainy Days Part 2

Phipps Conservatory is one of my very favorite places.  With the changing seasons, there's just so much to discover.  This time of year the aquatic gardens are in full bloom, and they really are quite beautiful.

Rainy Days

Today I had planned to immerse myself in books about wedding photography.  However, the weather didn't cooperate and it rained.

I just couldn't help myself.  Today I played in the rain :)
